LTLCalcFreight class, density and chargeable weight

About LTLCalc

LTLCalc is a small set of freight calculators: freight class and density for LTL, dimensional weight for parcel, and CBM with chargeable weight for ocean and air.

Where the numbers come from

The freight class pages use the 13-subprovision NMFC density scale published by the NMFTA, effective 19 July 2025. The dimensional weight page uses the divisors FedEx and UPS publish, and the dimension rounding both applied from August 2025. The CBM page uses the IATA volumetric divisor of 6,000 cm³ per kilogram and the ocean revenue ton convention.

Every page shows its formula and its assumptions, so a result can be checked rather than trusted. Where a rule varies by carrier or contract, the page says so.

What they are not

They are not a rate quote and not a classification service. Freight class ultimately comes from the commodity's own NMFC listing, which can override density entirely; rates come from your own agreement with the carrier. These are for estimating, comparing packaging choices and checking an invoice looks right.

Corrections

If a result looks wrong, email [email protected] with the inputs you used and what you compared against. Classification rules change, and corrections are welcome.
